Ready for stinky socks?
Let's go!
MISTAKE #6: NOT PICKING UP THE SOCKS
You know that pair of socks on the floor that your kids walk past every day without noticing?
That’s how most business owners treat their data.
The problem is right there, but until you see it and do something about it, nothing changes.
When you ignore what your numbers are telling you, small issues quietly grow into big ones:
Slipping margins, lower sales, unhappy customers, or staff performance problems that go unaddressed.
And by the time you finally notice, the mess has piled up.
And your mum is really grouchy at you.
The big fix
1- Turn insights into action
Make sure your financial review meetings include this key question:
“What are we going to do about it?”
2- Assign ownership
Decide who is responsible for improving that number and by when.
(Hint: it's not your mum).
(Extra hint: it's you).
3- Review outcomes
Check back in next month and ask: “Did it work?”
It’s like finally picking up the socks instead of stepping over them: small actions that make a big difference when done consistently.
Bottom line
Data doesn’t change your business.
Action does.
If you keep walking past the same problems in your numbers, they’ll stay right where they are, just like the socks on the floor.
