It can be really tricky to talk to different types of people.

Ever been explaining something to a potential client and their eyes just glaze over?

Or maybe they even just shut you down?

This can feel frustrating and really knock your confidence.

The good news:

It doesn't have to be that way.

One of the most helpful skills is being able to match the way YOU communicate with the way THEY want to be spoken to.

Everyone has a preferred communication style.

Some like to be spoken to in a super clear, direct manner.

Others want to go into detail and understand every single step.

And then there are the people who want to be inspired, or care more about how you make them feel, rather than the words you say.

It can all feel like a lot to sort through, but it boils down to this:

If you can understand and match another person's communication style preference, you're golden.

Sales conversations get a whole lot smoother.

So, over the next few weeks we're sharing practical tips on how to communicate with clients who can feel really hard to connect with.

This will help you win them over, support them better, and make the process less painful for everyone😌

Today, we'll start today with one of the clearest, most recognisable types:

Meet the Dominant Style

You definitely know this type. They stand out.

People in the 'Dominant' category want clear and direct communication.

They're quick, decisive decision makers.

They focus on results and want key information fast.

The great thing about Dominant style clients is that they can be fantastic to work with.

They think big, move fast, and want bold outcomes, so you can achieve a lot with them.

But you have to speak their language.

3 TIPS FOR WINNING OVER DOMINANT STYLE CLIENTS

1- Get to the point

Cut the fluff.

Share what you do, the result it delivers, and why it matters.

Do it quickly.

2- Lead with outcomes

Don't get lost in the process.

They want to know: What's the end result? How soon can I have it?

3- Be confident

If you hesitate, you will lose them.

Match their pace, speak directly, and make your recommendations with conviction.

(Since we are talking to “Ds,” notice how direct those tips were. They would appreciate that😉)

Example:

Imagine you're an accountant meeting with a Dominant style lead.

Instead of: “We have a thorough 6-step bookkeeping process that ensures all records are properly categorised and filed.”

You'd say: “We'll save you 10 hours a month and you won't have to stress about tax time again.”

Short. Sharp. Results-driven.

Bottom line:

Dominant style clients want you to speak with speed, clarity, and confidence.

Keep it short.

Focus on results.

Speak with certainty.

Do this, and they'll want to work with you, move forward quickly, and achieve a huge amount together.

TLDR:

  • If a potential clients’ eyes glaze over, it's often because you're not talking to them in a way that resonates with them.

  • People with a Dominant style prefer bold, clear, and results-driven communication.

  • To win them over: keep it short, focus on outcomes, and speak with confidence.

  • When you do, they will want to work with you, move forward quickly, and you can achieve a lot together.
