It’s winter here in Australia, which means things slow down a little.

Shorter days. Cozier jumpers. More time indoors.

And honestly? That makes it the perfect time to warm up cold leads.

You know the ones.

The people who enquired, showed interest… and then disappeared.

The leads that felt promising but never quite converted.

The contacts you meant to follow up with, but never did.

They’re not lost.

They’re just cold.

And now’s a great time to reach out, gently and genuinely, to spark the conversation again.

Here’s how:

3 WAYS TO WARM UP COLD LEADS THIS WINTER (WITHOUT BEING PUSHY)

1. Start by reconnecting (not selling)

The fastest way to stay ignored? Leading with “just following up…”

Instead, try this:

  • “I was thinking about the conversation we had back in April…”
  • “Hope things have been going well for you, how did X end up going?”
  • “Just checking in - are you still looking for support around [problem]?”

Make it personal.

Show you actually remember them.

Don’t start by selling. Start by reconnecting.

2. Offer something helpful, no strings attached

Cold leads warm up faster when you give them something useful, with zero pressure.

That could be:

  • A short article or resource related to their business or industry
  • A tip or insight based on the challenge they mentioned months ago
  • A quick note with a “thought of you when I saw this…” message

The idea is to remind them of your value, and make it easy for them to re-engage without feeling sold to.

3. Make it easy to say yes (or no)

Sometimes people ghost because they’re unsure, overwhelmed, or weren't sure what to do next.

So if they do re-engage, don’t overcomplicate it.

Have a clear, simple next step:

  • “If now’s a better time, would you like to jump on a quick call next week?”
  • “If it’s no longer a priority, totally fine—just let me know either way.”

Being respectful of their time and decision-making builds trust, even if the answer’s no.

And often, this approach turns a “maybe later” into a confident “yes.”

Bottom line:

You don’t need a big campaign to re-engage cold leads.

A few thoughtful, well-timed check-ins can bring great people back into your pipeline, and remind them why they were interested in the first place.

So throw on a jumper, make a cuppa, and send a few messages today.
